"Far Away Storms"
I work in paint, photography, and mixed media collage. Recent work addresses human emotion indirectly through images of sparse seascapes and storms. Written word has always been important to me, and a small amount of text is used, providing a slightly more direct link to meaning. Raw and sparse yet complex. Minimalism is engrained in my background. Even though my heritage is not Scandinavian, I cannot hide the influence of a childhood in Minnesota, with its strong ties to Norway and Sweden. I grew up around clean design and a lot of white: snow and white farm buildings. This work combines that sensibility with an Irish-American heritage where written word takes center stage. This minimalist work focuses on content, while attempting to create a quiet complexity. Photographs used in these pieces are from coastlines or lighthouses along the west coast of the U.S. and the west coast of Ireland.
